PDF Merging and stitching ToC

Hi Team,

We need assistance with a PDF merging requirement. Currently, when we merge three PDFs, the second and third documents are simply appended to the first.

Our Goal: We need the Table of Contents in the first document to automatically include the new sections from the appended files, or at the very least, insert a header/anchor at the point of merger.

Questions:

  • Is this feature currently feasible with GroupDocs.Merger?
  • If not, is there a workaround to update the TOC metadata after the merge is complete?

Thanks,
Pankaj

You are asking whether GroupDocs.Merger can automatically update the Table of Contents (TOC) when merging PDFs, or if there’s a way to insert headers/anchors at the merge point to reflect new sections in the TOC .

  1. Is automatic TOC updating supported?
No, GroupDocs.Merger does not currently support automatic updating of the Table of Contents when merging PDFs. The TOC from the first document will not be updated to include new sections from the appended files .

  2. Is there a built-in way to insert headers/anchors at the merge point?
There is no built-in feature in GroupDocs.Merger to insert headers or anchors at the point of merger that would be recognized by the TOC .

  3. Workaround suggestion:
A potential workaround would involve manually manipulating the PDF content or using additional tools to update the TOC metadata after the merge is complete. However, this is not directly supported by GroupDocs.Merger .

If this functionality is critical for your workflow, you may want to consider reaching out to GroupDocs support or checking their documentation for future updates .
